Open House Sundays
Open House at Sirius happens twice a month on the first and third Saturday. Visitors may come as early as 9:00 AM to participate in work projects with members. At 12:30 we hold a group meditation, followed by a pot luck lunch (bring a dish or $10 donation). After lunch cleanup, a tour of the community is conducted, although some people like to cruise around on their own using a map.
Community Experience Weekend
Guests are welcomed sometime Friday afternoon or evening (some don’t arrive until Saturday morning). After dinner with the community, and maybe a sauna or hike through our gardens and grounds, some time is spent visiting with members and other guests. This time usually includes a period of orientation, along with Q & A.
Breakfast in the Community Center is self-serve, and followed at 9:00 by an attunement circle.Members and guests spend the rest of the morning working together on various community projects and chores. We call it our Saturday of Joyful Productivity.
A Planetary Healing Group Meditation is held at 12:30, and is immediately followed at 1:00 by a hearty organic vegetarian lunch. After cleanup (everyone pitches in), our Open House Tour of the community begins. After the tour, people have until the 6:30 dinner bell to relax and play. The evening is free time. Some spend it exploring valley locales, and others stay on-site, reading, visiting, or attending one of our own nighttime events – an coffeehouse, talent show, movie viewing or discussion group.
Sunday consists of a mid-morning brunch and departure at your leisure.
Cost for the whole weekend is only $100, which covers both overnights and five meals. Contact the guest department office at 413 259-1251 or firstname.lastname@example.org to register in advance.
Come for Meditation
You’re invited on Wednesday mornings for a 7:30am to 8:00am meditation in the Octagon Room at the Community Center. Sitting with others in sacred silence can be very beneficial for one’s practice.
Also on Saturday you’re invited to participate in our Planetary Healing meditation from 12:30-1:00pm which people from the extended community and visitors often come to. There is a certain time set aside to speak aloud any beings, organizations, or situations in the world which we would like to send healing energy towards.
Also before our community meals on Thursdays and Open Houses, we form a circle to attune in sacred remembrance.
Day Visit & Group Tours
We conduct a formal tour of the community twice a month during Open House Saturdays (see above). Tours are also arranged through the office for educational groups coming to learn about sustainability, intentional community, organic gardening, and/or other aspects of our shared activities. We often make such arrangements for classes from local elementary schools, and also for college groups that may travel great enough distances to warrant spending a weekend.
Visitors are also welcome to tour the premises on their own using maps we provide and tips from community members passing by.
Our wood-fired sauna building is fully equipped with showers, guest towels, and it has a capacity of 20 people. Saunas typically have been used to enhance health and well-being through the purification process and as a way of fostering community. Throughout the year (except occasionally in the hottest months), we fire up our sauna every Wednesday evening, Friday evening, and Sunday evening. Guests are welcome to attend at a cost of $5 to upkeep the facilities. Please see our Community Calendar for the next upcoming sauna evening.
You’re invited to come participate in community potlucks here at Sirius. Bring a dish or if you don’t have a dish, we welcome an $10 donation. Community potlucks are every Thursday dinner at 6:30pm, and also for lunches during Open Houses, every first and third Saturday of every month (see above.)
Generally, during the solstices and equinoxes, and occasionally at other times of the year, we host earth celebrations at Sirius to gather community and be present for these alignments and sacred times of the calendar. Please check our calendar for actual times.
